\u00ab<\/strong><\/span><\/em>The tobacco processing in Serres from its liberation until today<\/span><\/strong><\/span>\u00bb<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In 1920 and 1930, due to the settlement of many refugees, the first development of agriculture and manufacture of tobacco was achieved. <\/span><\/p>\n

During the decade 1940-1950 and specifically during the German occupation 1940-1944,this activity run under the control of the occupation forces.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second phase of the development of the activity was achieved in the first three decades after 1950. <\/span><\/p>\n

There are multiple factors contributed to the development of the tobacco processing in Serres: a)the big amounts of tobacco which were produced in the prefecture of Serres due to the stability of the territories before the field was utilized for other agricultural products, b)the establishment of <\/span>\u03a3<\/span>.<\/span>\u0395<\/span>.<\/span>\u039a<\/span>.<\/span>\u0395<\/span> and its annex in the town of Serres, c) the State support for the tobacco after 1950, d)the constitution of <\/span>\u0395<\/span>.<\/span>\u039f<\/span>.<\/span>\u039a<\/span> as implementing entity of tobacco public policy and e)the existence of many tobacco warehouses in the town. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from <\/span>\u0395<\/span>.<\/span>\u039f<\/span>.<\/span>\u039a<\/span> more than approximately ten private individuals tobacco merchants\/processors bought leaf tobacco from tobacco producers, they collected them in the warehouses, they processed and exported them to several countries. The activity of procession was seasonal and periodically up to 4.000 tobacco workers were employed. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our announcement will include original quantitative and qualitative data of research from the processing of tobacco and its financial and social impact on the town of Serres and its great region. The announcement will be accompanied by documents of Public Services and Organizations and private operations as well. Moreover, photographic evidence of the tobacco processing will be available. In addition, there will be evidences regarding the building and engineering installation of tobacco warehouses, the employment of workers and their payment, the insurance, the working conditions, the trade union activity, their contract etc.     <\/span><\/p>\n
