1912\u00bb<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n In the framework or the ottoman reforms of the 19th century a number of prerogatives \u2013 although meager – were introduced for the minorities (millet) of the empire. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate with the support of the Greek community (f.e. founding of the Greek Literature Society of Constantinople) gave special emphasis to the development of institutional education. A collateral but of the same weight action was the founding of student boarding houses. An action profoundly democratic since it was addressed to the students of the province and not the urban centers. Education in these boarding houses was multifaceted and substantial. Under today\u2019s standards they could be characterized as subject to an educational conformism which was totally compatible to the educational and social beliefs of the time. <\/span><\/p>\n In the beginning of the 20th century the Greek Orthodox Community of Serres founded a male boarding house with the purpose of providing high school students and students of the sixth grade of the Central Urban School of Serres\u201chousing, food and diet in general, under conditions of health and education and with the purpose of protecting them from all risks to which young people are exposed when they luck the fatherly care and supervision\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n The announcement addresses the organization and operation regulation of the boarding house. It was printed in the F.
